Trent Edwards ran his course in Buffalo, but it's possible he could be the Jaguars' starter if David Garrard and the team don't rebound soon.

Quarterback Trent Edwards knew his time was up in Buffalo, but in the NFL, if one team doesn’t love you anymore, there’s always another team willing to embrace you.

Maybe not always, but Edwards -- put on waivers this week by the Buffalo Bills and claimed by the Jacksonville Jaguars -- may find himself in the starting lineup again.

After watching Edwards take part in his first practice, coach Jack Del Rio said: ”We’ll bring him along as quickly as we can, teach him our system, and, like all of our players, put him in a position where, if he is called upon, we expect him to play well.”

The 1-2 Jaguars are desperate for a kick-start, and if starter David Garrard doesn’t bounce back after consecutive losses to the San Diego Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles (the Jags were outscored 66-16), Edwards could get his shot.

“They're going to do what they're going to do,” Garrard said, according to the Florida Times-Union. “I can't control that. I've said that since the first day that I came in here until today. All that I can control is I have an opportunity this weekend, so I'm going to go out with all my ability, my passing and my faith and perform at the level I know I can.”

For the moment, Edwards will be listed as the Jaguars’ emergency third quarterback behind Garrard and Todd Bouman. But he knows all too well the uncertainty of playing quarterback in the NFL.

”When you lose, the quarterback is going to get the flak, so it's understandable,” Edwards said. “When you don't win, it's tough. I've been through that.”

And now that Garrard is going through it, the door may soon open for Edwards.
