Colts QB Peyton Manning vs. Chargers OLB Shaun Phillips: Phillips has been on a tear this season with nine sacks. Indianapolis has allowed 12 sacks through 10 games this year.
Colts DE Dwight Freeney vs. Chargers QB Philip Rivers: Rivers has been a thorn in the side of Indianapolis for the past several seasons. Freeney has played well against the Chargers.
Colts WRs Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon vs. Chargers CBs Antoine Cason and Quentin Jammer: The Indianapolis passing game should thrive Sunday night. Wayne has been receiving double coverage for most of the season, so it's up to Garcon to make San Diego sit up and take notice.
Chargers running game vs. Colts run defense: Ryan Mathews likely won't play again with his sprained ankle. But don't overlook Mike Tolbert and the production he has been good for in filling in for Mathews. His bruising style is no joke and the Chargers have no qualms about turning him loose on the Colts defense. Against the run, Indy has been giving up an average of 137 yards per game; it allowed a whopping 231 to Arian Foster. The Chargers will test rookie SLB Pat Angerer.
GAME PLAN: The Colts are at home, where they haven't lost a game all season.
Indianapolis has to get its running game back to the point that they don't have to pass on almost every play. The Colts need to re-establish its offensive balance.
Defensively, Indianapolis needs to attack the line of scrimmage better than it did in last week's loss at New England. Tackling at the point of attack must improve. San Diego can score in bunches and in a hurry, so the Colts have to control the tempo.
