Jackson Agrees To Terms

The Colts' top draft pick beat four other members of his draft class in agreeing to contract terms today, including the Colts' seventh-round pick RB Anthony Davis out of Wisconsin.

The Colts have signed first-round draft pick Marlin Jackson to a five-year contract worth $6.975 million. Jackson becomes the sixth rookie draft pick to sign with the team.

The deal reportedly includes $4.38 million in a two-tiered signing bonus and reporting and option bonuses. The final year of the deal includes escalators that could result in an additional $3 million in compensation for Jackson.

Jackson, who has a legitimate shot at claiming a starter spot at cornerback didn't want to miss camp, so he and his agent worked hard to get a deal done so that he could be in Terre Haute on Wednesday.

Cornerback Kelvin Hayden (second round), offensive lineman Rob Hunt (fifth round), linebacker Tyjuan Hagler (fifth round) and running back Anthony Davis (seventh round) still remain unsigned. Hunt is a bit of a surprise as he made the statement in the offseason that he would not be a holdout. But the most shocking is that the RB Anthony Davis out of Wisconsin, the 7th-round pick is still unsigned.

It's likely that the Colts and fifth-round pick Tyjuan Hagler were not rushing to get his deal done as it's likely that he will miss the first half of the season due to a sports hernia injury. The Colts entered training camp week with nine players unsigned, so Hagler's deal couldn't be a high priority with the clock ticking to get the healthy rookies in camp by Wednesday.
