Roster Shuffle Continues for Colts

The Indianapolis Colts brought back a veteran and said good-bye to a recent addition to the special teams unit.

Wide receiver Troy Walters was re-signed by the Indianapolis Colts today after just being released on Sunday. Walters was bumped from the Colts roster to make room for special teams player Keith O'Neil who was waived by Dallas.

Ironically, another special teams player, safety Dexter Reid -- who the Colts had signed after his release by the Patriots -- got the axe with the reinstatement of Walters to the roster.

The odd shuffling certainly begs the question of why the Colts didn't just release Reid to begin with, unless they were too uncertain of the health of their secondary last weekend to part with a defensive back. But with the Colts' starting secondary now expected to be ready for action, including cornerback Donald Strickland, safety Bob Sanders and cornerback Marlin Jackson -- who is expected to start at the nickel position -- Reid may have become less valuable to the equation.

In other Colts-related personnel moves, former Colts defensive tackle Lynn McGruder -- who was with the team just a few days before his release from the 53-man roster, was signed to the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad. McGruder is an undrafted rookie out of Oklahoma who the Colts snapped up after the first round of cuts by Tampa Bay. A day after being placed on the 53-man roster, the Colts released him to make room for the addition of Titans linebacker Rocky Calmus. Recommended Stories
