After an offseason of debate about whether or not Gary Brackett was big enough and good enough to be…
The Numbers Game
With his opening day 2 sacks, defensive tackle Larry Tripplet is in a tie for third in the NFL and a tie for first in the AFC in that category. His 7 tackles tied him for best in the league amongst defensive linemen with Houston's Seth Payne.
Linebacker Gary Brackett was one of just four players in the league to post 2 interceptions in week one action. And he heads into week two tied for second place amongst linebackers with 8 tackles, trailing only Will Witherspoon of Carolina (11). Cato June is just one behind Brackett in tackles with 7.
Peyton Manning's 98.6 quarterback rating was sixth-best in the NFL. He'll face Jags quarterback Bryon Leftwich this weekend head-to-head, who posted a fifth-best 103.2 rating against the Chargers.
Hunter Smith is currently rated 24th in the NFL in punting since the rankings focus on gross average. But that's a real injustice to the Colts punter who booted four of his seven punts inside the Ravens' 20-yard line.
The Colts' 25% third-down conversion rate against a stingy Ravens defense has them tied for 26th in the league in that category. Look for that ranking to improve after this weekend.
The Colts were one of just 5 teams who didn't give up a sack in week one.
With their +4 turnover ratio, the Colts are second in the NFL only to Buffalo and Jacksonville, who both grabbed three interceptions and two fumble recoveries without surrending the ball on offense in their respective games.
Rookie kicker Dave Rayner averaged 60.2 yards per kickoff on five attempts (26th in the league) in his debut. But he was one of just nine kickers who forced a touchback.
Due to quite a few garbage yards allowed in the final two minutes of play, the Colts defense is ranked 28th overall with 401 yards allowed. But they are tied for second-best in points allowed (7) behind Detroit (3).
By surrendering just 77 yards rushing, the Colts head into week two ranked number ten against the run.
Brandon Stokley's 7 receptions led the team in week one and placed him in a tie for ninth place in the league in that category.
