Manning, Harrison, James Hit Special Marks

Posted Sep 25, 2005

In a low-scoring affair against Cleveland on Sunday, the Colts' famed "Triplets" managed to achieve some impressive career marks.

Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and wide receiver Marvin Harrison became the leading duo in NFL history in receiving yards on Sunday. They needed just 24 yards entering today's contest versus the Browns at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis to break the previous record held by the Bills' Jim Kelly and Andre Reed.

In the fourth quarter, Manning hit Harrison for a 16-yard pass that gave them the record -- and counting. For the day, Harrison pulled in six catches for 53 yards, pushing their combined career totals to 717 completions and 9,568 yards -- both NFL records. Next in their sights is the NFL career record of 85 touchdowns by former 49ers Steve Young and Jerry Rice. Manning and Harrison are just three short of breaking that record.

Manning also became the second-fastest player to surpass the 30,000-yard passing mark, reaching it in 115 games. Only Miami's Dan Marino did it quicker, achieving it in 114 contests.

Colts running back Edgerrin James became the 29th rusher in NFL history to post over 8,000 career rushing yards with his results against Cleveland. James is in his eighth NFL season, but he missed 10 games during the 2001 season due to a serious knee injury. He rushed for 108 yards on 27 carries against the Browns and scored the only touchdown of the day. He also caught two passes for 29 yards. It's his second 100-plus game of the season after just three games.

The Colts are 3-0 and will be heading to Tennessee next weekend to play the Titans (1-2).
