Marsh Becomes Second Colt to Leave Camp

ColtPower has learned that undrafted free agent Antwan Marsh has left the Indianapolis Colts, just days after rookie tight end Corey Roberts. And with injuries piling up at safety, the Colts are getting thin at that position.

Last Sunday, the Colts released two players who were in the mix as candidates for the returns specialist positions -- wide receivers Jamie Goodwin and Gerran Walker. Today, ColtPower learned from a source close to the NFL that the field has thinned a bit more as safety Antwan Marsh out of Pikeville College has left the team. Like Roberts, the Colts retain the rights to Marsh and get a roster exemption for him for the balance of this season.

The reason for Marsh's departure is unknown, and his agent had no comment at the time we contacted him this afternoon.

In early June, ColtPower's Jerry Langton had this to say in his scouting report on Marsh for our ColtPower Insiders:

"If you’re not impressed with his 20.0-yard average bringing back kicks as a senior, keep in mind that he went 8-427-2 as a junior — that’s 53.38 yards a pop and a quarter of them came back for scores. I can’t get those numbers on Madden 2K6. On defense, he’s a big hitter with a wide receiver’s hands and seems to understand zones well and have the necessary hip swivel to cover deep."

The remaining returns specialists who figure to be most prominent in the camp competition include seventh-round pick T.J. Rushing, Dan Sheldon, Terrence Wilkins, Ashlan Davis, and Ed Hinkle.

Marsh's departure also leaves the Colts a bit thin at safety, at least temporarily. Both starters, Bob Sanders (shoulder) and Mike Doss (calf) are currently sidelined. Antoine Bethea also has a minor knee injury and Chris Laskowski sat out today's practices. That left Matt Giordano and Dexter Reid as the only 100% healthy safeties during this morning's session, so it's likely the Colts will make a move to add a safety with Marsh's available roster spot.
