Aug. 5th, 8:45 p.m. ... Last night, we told Colts fans not to be surprised to learn of another player's imminent release even though the Colts yesterday officially announced two signings and the names of two players who had left camp.

The signing of former Texans and Bears running back Tony Hollings made even more sense today after ColtPower learned that running back Vashon Pearson has been placed on the waived/injured list. Pearson reportedly had a groin strain and was considered to be out indefinitely. Groin strain is often the first diagnosis mentioned before further testing reveals if the player has a sports hernia injury that could require surgery.
While we haven't had any confirmation yet that Pearson's injury has been elevated to that status, the move by the Colts makes it appear that he may have a condition a bit more serious than a slight strain. A slight strain often only takes days or a roughly a week for recovery.
If another team picks Pearson up off of waivers, they also assume any liability associated with his groin injury, so it's unlikely he will be grabbed off the waiver wire. If he clears waivers, the Colts can then either work out an injury settlement with him to complete his release, or they can put him on injured reserve and retain his rights. But that would require them to keep him on the payroll under his current salary, which is unlikely considering he was towards the bottom of the depth chart at his position.
Pearson was signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent following the 20005 NFL Supplemental Draft. The former University of Mississippi running back spent some time on the Colts practice squad last season.
