ColtPower has learned that the Indianapolis Colts have released defensive back Eric Hill after reaching an injury settlement with him. Hill, who hadn't practiced with the team since training camp opened, was on the team's Physically Unable to Perform list with an ankle injury.
The former wide receiver out of Colorado State had switched to defensive back prior to the 2005 season, but the Colts released him at the end of August. He signed with the Chicago Bears to play on their practice squad, but was released by them at the end of November. The Colts quickly signed him to their practice squad and then designated him for NFL Europe duty. He was the starting right cornerback for the Hamburg Sea Devils earlier this year.
As ColtPower reported earlier this week, wide receiver Marc Boerigter flew to Indianapolis to explore an opportunity to join the Colts and compete for the No. 4 position on their depth chart. Today the Colts and Boerigter made the deal official, with the former Chiefs and Packers wide receiver signing a one-year, $500,000 deal according to a source close to the NFL. Boerigter joined the team for practice on Thursday.
After Boerigter was released by the Packers early this week, the Colts swooped in quickly to get discussions started about adding him to the roster. The team had expressed interest in him when he first made the leap from the Canadian Football League, but lost out on the bidding against the Chiefs. As an unrestricted free agent this offseason, Boerigter reportedly drew interest from the Patriots and Buccaneers before deciding to sign with the Packers.
