ColtPower has learned that the Indianapolis Colts released a pair of players so that they could promote two others from the practice squad. The moves were necessary to balance the depth chart prior to the Giants game.

ColtPower has learned that recently acquired defensive end Bo Schobel and running back Kory Chapman were released by the Colts on Friday. The team made the moves to make room on the roster for wide receiver John Standeford and running back Ran Carthon.

The Colts needed Standeford, who was the team's top receiver in the preseason, for depth as the team left to play the Giants since slot receiver Brandon Stokley still wasn't sure that his sprained ankle would be strong enough by game time. Carthon was promoted after Chapman hurt his hamstring late in the week during practice. The initial results from an MRI didn't seem to indicate that his injury was going to be serious, but he obviously wasn't going to be able to play this weekend.

The Colts have been very active with shuffling players on and off the roster and the practice squad as well this past week, so don't be surprised to see either one of the waived players back with the team if they aren't claimed by another NFL club by Monday at 4:00 p.m. (ET).
