...After spending his rookie season on Arizona's practice squad last season, Sheldon is returning to the NFC. The speedy and strong receiver out of Northern Illinois signed on with the Colts early this year, but was one of many returns specialists released by Indianapolis this summer as the team opted to go with veteran Terrence Wilkins and also held onto seventh-round pick T.J. Rushing out of Stanford, putting him on their practice squad.
As long as Sheldon passes his physical on Wednesday, he'll wear jersey number 84 for Chicago. The Bears' interest in him is primarily as depth at the slot receiver position, not as a returns specialist.
"They're set for returns and said that's just an added bonus," Sheldon told The Beacon News.
The 5-foot-8 receiver drew interest from the Buccaneers and the Packers before getting his offer from the Bears. For Sheldon, who went to high school in Burlington, Illinois, joining the Bears was a dream come true.
"I'm thrilled to be part of the organization that I watched and admired for umpteen years now and hope I can make a contribution," he said.
