Ed Thompson: It's been a while since we've talked. How do you feel you've
been doing as the season's been progressing for you?
Tyjuan Hagler: It's been going really well…our record is 8-0 and we're
doing well. The first six weeks were kind of tough for me because I was
inactive, but the last two games I've been playing quite a bit on special teams.
I'm really enjoying the season, being out there and getting the experience and
exposure I need.
ET: Where have you primarily been seeing action on special teams?
TH: I've been on punt return and kickoff return. It's a tough job running
down the field on special teams; they say one special teams play is like three
defensive plays. It's quite tiring, but if that's how I have to get on the
field, I'm going to do it to the best of my ability.
ET: Where are you lining up on punt returns?
TH: I'm lining up at right tackle. It's one of the easiest jobs on the field
during punt return I just block my guy all the way down the field. It's simple
to do, but if it gets me on the field I love it.
ET: You had a big tackle last week on special teams. Can you tell us about
TH: It was the opening kickoff of the game. I just ran down the field and the
guys just left me unblocked, so I just ran to the ball. Laurence Maroney tried
to block me, but I just ran through him and made the tackle. That helped set the
tone for the game. I also had a couple of assists, I just got to the ball and
helped my team out as much as I could.
ET: You guys did a great job containing Maroney on kickoffs last week.
TH: Oh yeah, it was definitely a blessing. Our coach told us at the beginning
of the week that he was leading the NFL in kick returns, so we knew we had our
work cut out for us. But we got the job done and got the "W".
ET: How's weakside linebacker going for you. Are you getting more
TH: Oh yeah, the more I practice and play there, the more comfortable I get.
I work hard everyday in practice. I prepare like I'm going to play in the game
because I could be only one play away from getting into the game.
ET: And that's really been true the last couple of weeks with Keith O'Neil
out. You're the next guy in line if Cato June needs to come out. Are you ready
for that if it should happen?
TH: Oh, I'm definitely ready. I prepare each and every week and I know the
game plan, so if my number's called I'll be ready.
