With only a week to negotiate new deals for any of the eight practice squad members that they wanted to bring back for the 2007 season, the Colts moved quickly and got five of them signed to new deals on Tuesday.
Quarterback Josh Betts, WR Devin Aromashodu, C Albert Bimper, DB Tanard Davis and FB Luke Lawton will all be back for the 2007 campaign.
There has been no indication yet that the team will re-sign TE Aaron Halterman, RB Kory Chapman or last year's fifth-round pick, Michael Toudouze. The lack of a signing could simply be a matter of dispute over contract length and amount. Or the team may have decided that at least one or more of the trio didn't have a bright future in Indy.
The Colts have until the end of the week to sign the other three -- if they can reach an agreement. Otherwise, they become street free agents who are able to entertain offers from any club.
Halterman was a late-season addition to the practice squad, while Chapman bounced on and off the regular roster and the practice squad a few times this year.
Toudouze was passed by twice this season, initially landing on the practice squad after sixth-round pick Charlie Johnson earned a roster spot, and then when undrafted free agent Daniel Federkeil was called up later in the season rather than Toudouze.
