It was first reported on ProFootballTalk.com and later confirmed to ColtPower.com by VikingUpdate.com's Tim Yotter that Hakeem Nicks recently had a workout with the Indianapolis Colts.
Nicks is one of several receivers who could be available when the Colts make their pick, the 27th in the first round of this month's NFL Draft. He's currently ranked as the fourth-best wide receiver in this month's draft and the 21st-ranked player overall.
With the departure of Marvin Harrison, the Colts could be looking for a precise route-runner in the mold of the future Hall of Famer. Nicks could be that player.
"Nicks is a consistent pass catcher who has reliable hands," Scout.com NFL Expert Chris Steuber said. "He lacks elite speed, but is quick and makes plays downfield. He gets a fluid release off the line, is physical through routes and has the ability to make a difficult reception. He offers the quarterback a nice target and comes back to the ball consistently. He’s a tough runner after the catch and doesn’t go down easily."
Nicks raised some eyebrows at his Pro Day last month, when he had gained 14 pounds since the NFL Combine in February. ProFootballTalk.com reported that Nicks has now lost ten of those pounds.
In a recent poll at ColtPower.com, fans ranked Nicks ahead of Percy Harvin, Darrius Heyward-Bey, and Kenny Britt based on their highlight videos.
