Titans:
— Charlie Berstein compares the Titans and Texans
head-to-head, which
should give you an excellent feel for the two division foes most likely to
challenge Indianapolis for the division title.
— Paul Kuharsky, ESPN.com's AFC South blogger, sums up what he
saw at the Titans practices. Some good information about free agent
addition Nate Washington and what he means to the offense, as well as some
praise for the second best safety tandem in the NFL.
— While his job isn't in jeopardy at this point, the Tennessean reports that
receiver and first-round pick Kenny Britt's competition is
gaining valuable experience while Britt is recovering from a hamstring
injury. Given the dearth of quality young talent on the roster, though, it
would be hard to imagine that any of the other young men on the roster will
unseat him.
Texans:
— Former Colt Clifton Dawson is back on the street after the
Texans waived him following an MCL injury. It's highly unlikely, barring a number of injuries
at the running back position, that Indianapolis will bring Dawson back, but it's
always good to keep tabs on players that are available and know the system.
— Brendan Sonnone breaks down
Duane Brown for BattleRedNation.com.
— The Houston Chronicle comments on a number of position battles and who's
looking the best so far in their
Camp Confidential. There is some information that could be important
for fantasy purposes and a blurb on a former Colt linebacker. Also, you
have to love the fact that John McClain covers the Texans for the Chronicle when
he's not busy fighting terrorists.
— Non-McClain Chronicle beat writer Richard Justice talks about
who will be calling the plays for the Texans in 2009 and how it will effect
the team. A lot of their success will come down to execution and whether
or not Matt Schaub is healthy, but Justice brings up some good points.
Jaguars:
— Charlie Bernstein of JagNation.com said that the Jaguars look
motivated and ready.
They'd better be if they're going to improve on their 2008 performance.
They have a number of pieces in place, but, as Charlie points out below, they
have a lot of question marks heading into the 2009 season.
— Gene Frenette of Jacksonville.com talks to Jack Del Rio about how
hot his seat is entering the season. And Del Rio talks about how he
can't let the heat distract him. He can't let it distract him, but he must
be noticing it. Unless the Jaguars show signs of improvement in 2009, Del
Rio is probably on his way out.
— The Jacksonville.com site has their equivalent of a camp confidential, but
they call it the
Observation Deck. There are some interesting points and observations,
including reports about the weather. Thank goodness it's not that hot in
Terre Haute.
Charlie's Two Cents on the Jaguars' Camp:
"Through just a few days of practice, the young Jaguars have more energy and
seem to be a more cohesive unit, although there are several questions that must
be answered. Quarterback David Garrard has looked shaky early on in drills, and
there is no depth behind him, as the team has journeyman Todd Bouman and Paul Smith.
The defensive line has huge questions as John Henderson is on the downside of
his career, and it’s unclear whether Derek Landri or Terrence Knighton can be
contributors. The Jaguars safety position is a potential mess as Reggie Nelson
has been disappointing, and Sean Considine and Gerald Alexander haven’t shown
much.
The young wide receivers have been good, and the running backs look
explosive, but aside from those two positions, there really haven’t been many
players who have stood out positively."
