With the preseason at a midway point and just a week before the team has to cut its roster to 75 players, Bill Polian and Jim Caldwell are still busy evaluating players for the 2009 version of the Indianapolis Colts. Inside, ColtPower.com Editor Eric Hartz updates his roster. Take a look at who Eric has making the cut, and let us know if you agree in the forums!

Editor's Note: This is the third mock 53-man roster. The depth chart at Colts.com was not used in compiling this roster. To view the Aug. 11 roster, click here. For the Aug. 18 roster update, click here.

Quarterbacks (2): Peyton Manning, Jim Sorgi.
Running backs (4): Joseph Addai, Donald Brown, Mike Hart, Lance Ball.
Wide receivers (5): Reggie Wayne, Anthony Gonzalez, Austin Collie, Pierre Garcon, Taj Smith.
Tight ends (3): Dallas Clark, Gijon Robinson, Jacob Tamme.
Offensive line (9): Ryan Diem, Mike Pollak, Jeff Saturday, Ryan Lilja, Charlie Johnson, Tony Ugoh, Jamey Richard, Jaimie Thomas, Daniel Federkeil.
Defensive line (10): Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, Antonio Johnson, Ed Johnson, Raheem Brock, Keyunta Dawson, Fili Moala, Terrance Taylor, Marcus Howard, Daniel Muir.
Linebackers (6): Gary Brackett, Clint Session, Philip Wheeler, Tyjuan Hagler, Jordan Senn, Ramon Humber.
Defensive backs (11): Bob Sanders, Antoine Bethea, Marlin Jackson, Kelvin Hayden, Melvin Bullitt, Tim Jennings, Dante Hughes, T.J. Rushing, Jerraud Powers, Matt Giordano, Jamie Silva.
Kicker (1): Adam Vinatieri.
Punter (1): Pat McAfee.
Long snapper (1): Justin Snow.

NOTES: Not much changed at the skill positions on offense this week, although Lance Ball was added to the roster as the fourth running back. With Mike Hart fighting injuries again, a fourth running back becomes necessary — for now. Ball and Chad Simpson are a toss-up at this point, and neither looks too promising. The best-case scenario here is for Hart to get healthy.

With Ball added, the offensive line loses a member for the first time, going from 10 to nine players. Steve Justice is the odd man out. With just four backups on the offensive line, there is still a good bit of versatility there with three tackles, including one, Charlie Johnson, who could play guard in a pinch; and five guards, one of whom (Daniel Federkeil) who could play tackle in a pinch, and another (Jamey Richard) who could play center in a pinch.

The defensive line also lost a member, with undrafted free agent Adrian Grady dropping off. Grady will be a candidate for the practice squad, and the 10-member defensive line looks plenty deep without him.

With Grady dropping out and Adam Seward getting released over the weekend, that left two open defensive spots. They go to Jordan Senn and Ramon Humber, giving the Colts six linebackers — perhaps a little thinner than they'd like. That could open a spot down the road for versatile vet Freddy Keiaho, but Keiaho hasn't done much to distinguish himself so far this preseason.

The 11 defensive backs remain the same from last week, and it's hard to find one to cut. If the Colts did drop one to keep Keiaho, it would likely be Dante Hughes on the chopping block, despite a fine performance against Philadelphia last Thursday.

I'll close with the usual disclaimer — that this is a work in progress and is subject to change.
