Colts sign returner Karim

Returner Deji Karim returns to Indy

Kickoff return specialist Deji Karim has re-joined the Colts, for whom he played three games in 2012 and had a career-best, 101-yard TD return.

While the day after a game is typically quiet, the Colts made a roster move Sunday by signing running back Deji Karim and waiving running back Davin Meggett.

Karim joins the Colts for a second time and is known primarily for his ability to return kickoffs. His three-game stint with the Colts in 2012 included a career-long 101-yard TD return in the season finale against Houston. He averaged 36.4 yards on nine kickoff returns that year.

He’s appeared in 33 games in four NFL seasons. Karim, 5-8 and 209, has averaged 25.6 yards on 91 career kickoff returns, which ranks fourth in the AFC and 11th in the NFL in the past four seasons.

Last season, Karim played in seven games for Houston, where he ran 12 times for 51 yards (4.3 avg.) and returned five kickoffs for 104 yards. He spent the first two years of his career in Jacksonville, which selected him out of Southern Illinois in the sixth round in 2010.

Meggett was signed by the Colts on July 27 and this was his second stint with the Colts, who had added him to the practice squad in December of 2012. Meggett is the son of former two-time Pro Bowl star Dave Meggett.
